Enable or disable online mode on my Minecraft server

Online mode: what is it?

The online mode is a Minecraft setting that allows you to verify if the players connecting to your server have an official version of the game.

When the Authenticated Mode setting is enabled, only accounts authenticated by Mojang / Microsoft can join your server.
When it is disabled, this verification is no longer performed: cracked versions of the game can therefore connect.

Advantages and disadvantages of online mode

• If online mode is enabled

Advantages:

• Only players with an official version of Minecraft can join the server;
• The security on player authentication is maximized;
• You reduce the risk of username impersonation.

Disadvantages:

• Players using an unofficial version will not be able to connect.

• If online mode is disabled

Advantages:

• Allows all players to join the server, including with an unofficial version of the game. 🏴‍☠️

Disadvantages:

• You lose the security of account verification;
• Higher risk of identity theft if the server is poorly configured;
• Configuration must be handled with care.

How to enable or disable online mode?

You can modify this setting directly from the Nitroserv manager of your server ☺️

1. Log in to your Nitroserv server manager

2. Open the Configuration tab

3. Locate the Authenticated Mode line (online-mode), the 6^th^ among the options.

4. Modify the switch according to your preference:

   • Enabled: only players with an official account can join

   • Disabled: all players can connect, even with a cracked version

5. Click on Save at the top right

6. Restart your server to enjoy it 🫡
